Woodworm

Woodworm is the generic name given to a number of different problems. The larvae of many woodboring beetles can cause the characteristic holes in wooden items and structural elements around your home.

A woodworm problem is often accompanied by other factors, such as damp or rot. The stages of woodworm development begin with beetles laying eggs in the cracks in woodwork. These eggs hatch and the resulting larva burrow into timber, creating a network of tunnels over several years.

The three most common woodboring insects we treat are the death watch beetle, wood boring weevil and common furniture beetle.

How we treat it

Sometimes insect infestations are cured by first resolving underlying damp and moisture problems. As the wood dries out the insects are no longer able to bore into it. For active infestations we also have a range of specialist insecticides only available to certified practitioners which disrupt the lifecycle of the insects at specific stages.
